Gov. Perdue Requests SBA Loan Assistance for Tornado Survivors

RALEIGH – Gov. Bev Perdue today asked the U.S. Small Business Administration to provide low-interest loans to residents in Burke and Rutherford counties who suffered losses from the tornadoes that struck earlier this week.

“We will aggressively pursue any available assistance for those who suffered losses in the tornadoes and need help rebuilding or repairing their homes and businesses,” Gov. Perdue said. “We hope to hear back from the SBA early next week.”

SBA loans provide up to $200,000 to homeowners to repair and/or replace damaged property. Homeowners and renters would also be eligible for loans up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged personal property.

Severe storms and tornadoes traversed across the western part of the state Wednesday injuring at least 15 people and damaging more than 25 homes and businesses.

Damage assessment teams from North Carolina Emergency Management and SBA were on the ground today surveying losses.
